Westpac chief economist Bill Evans said the positive data should mean gross domestic product figures due out Wednesday would show the economy grew 0.5 percent in the quarter, rather than contracting.

What a difference a day makes
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released today, gross domestic product for the December quarter of 2008 fell 0.5 percent from the third quarter of 2008. And just yesterday:
